Orlando, FL

Design Interactive’s abstract on Cybersickness Symptom Profiles in Long Duration Immersive AR has been chosen as one of the IMSH 2021 Winning Abstracts. Selected out of 150 submissions, DI’s abstract will be awarded second place on January 19, 2021 by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. The award recognizes research that seeks to improve performance and reduce errors in patient care through simulation. Previous winners of the award include the UNC Anesthesia Team. Lead by Design Interactive’s Research Associate ll, Claire Hughes, the abstract called out the importance of identifying the potential causes of people who suffer from cybersickness when utilizing virtual and augmented reality technologies.

As augmented reality moves towards mass adoption for training and operational support and, according to Gartner, has matured and is no longer considered an “emerging technology.”says Kay Stanney, CEO of Design Interactive. But our most recent study indicates caution is warranted. This study provides insight into potential adverse impacts of long duration AR exposure, such as oculomotor disturbances, which could compromise safety and suggests usage protocols that can counter these concerns.”

This year, due to the pandemic, IMSH is virtual and will feature over 350 presentations offered live online or in the video collection. Access to all presentations will begin January 19 and run until March 31, 2021 and all virtual content will be available for registered attendees until the end of 2021.
